Thank You & Race Results 2008
Race participants and volunteers,
Well, another AWESOME Book’n 5K! We managed to time it so the rain had just cleared out, and by 8:00 AM the fire engine sounded the horn for the start of the Storytime Strut! It was amazing to watch as seasoned athletes, entire families, and very young people alike lit up the 1 mile run and flew into the finish line with big smiles (and a bit of sweat)!
9:00 AM marked the start of the Second Annual 5K, as over 100 athletes started their 3.1 mile journey; an incredible field this year, and a lot of very determined runners and walkers! Through trails and parks, and finishing on a seemingly endless track (I know, at that point it does seem endless), and crossing the finish with smiles, exhaustion, and relief (not necessarily in that order)!
My reward was the opportunity to see all of you cross the line; from 16 minute finish times to just under an hour, watching all of you finish was a reward in itself! I offer each and every one of you a huge CONGRATULATIONS and huge THANK YOU! You had a goal and all accomplished it, and in the meantime helped out our library. What better way to spend a Saturday morning!
Our incredible volunteers that woke up at the crack of dawn (or before) so they could go to some remote post on our course and point directions to runners, or flip pancakes, or try to take off your number as you moved somewhat incoherently through the finish line, all deserve a great deal of recognition and thanks! All of our sponsors (check out the logos on the back of your shirts and our web-site), the South Lyon Kiwanis and their famous and patented pancake making techniques, our Police and Fire Departments, medical volunteers, South Lyon school system, all came together to help turn this into the successful community event that it was.
But most of all, without your participation, the second annual Book’n 5K could not have been the event that it was. So on behalf of myself and the entire Salem-South Lyon District Library, a sincere THANK YOU to all that were a part of this event! We look forward to bringing you an even better event next year, so mark your calendar for May 30, 2009 – and keep an eye on our website!
Sincerely,
Ed Bartone
Race Director, Book’n 5K
